This one is not that heavy and it does not make bruise. Yes, there may be a great deal of individual difference. You should find weight and type which fits you best by experience. I can say, at least, the product itself is not faulty.

I have this hoop for more than 2 years, and it works for me, at first times when i was using it left brusses (black and blues)… but after 5 times of everyday use i dint even feel the pain anymore, because yor stomach gets used to it. Trust this hoop after two weeks of use you will see the results =), i do it before i go to sleep.

This was painful with use as well as returning for refund. I did not get fully refunded. I paid my own shipping and returned exactly how the item was sent to me(which was obviously already returned by another customer) I guess they are making money sending the same hula hoop which keeps being returned to them and charging restocking fee. No fitness product should bruise you to get in shape!
I can accept muscle soreness. My 23 year old daughted tried it with terrible complaints. We are both in excellent physical shape and since then been using 5lb weighted (different brand)hula hoop without problems and great results while having fun. I WOULD NEVER RECCOMEND the Jemimah Health Hula(Hoola) Hoop II
